Suits were used to rescue 133 men from the torpedoed Dorchester

13 June 1942 - Escanaba exploded and sank
Final cause was never established
All but 2 of her 103 man crew were lost
4 August 1943 over 20,000 people in Grand Haven attended
memorial services for Escanaba
